All Things New

Early spring is one of my favorite times of the year – trees budding with bright florescent green leaves, flowers emerging from the earth, birds chirping in the air, and wildlife waking from a long winter’s sleep. I am amazed at how everything is suddenly full of life again after the many months of cold, seemingly lifeless weather. To me, spring is a small glimpse of our eternity with God – beauty, renewal, and new life. Spring is a picture of our new life with Christ. I am reminded of Revelation 21:2-5.

“And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.’ And he who was seated on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new.’”

A note on this passage tells us: “The destruction of the last enemy, death, and the last judgment will finally lead to the renewal of the entire created order, heaven and earth, to be the perfect home in which the Lamb will live forever with his bride, the people whom he has redeemed out of all the nations through his atoning death” (source). Not only is there a beautiful future for those God has saved, but there is a beauty and newness in our lives now.

When we are in Christ, we are renewed and start fresh. “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17). Spring is a visual picture of what happens when a man dead in his transgressions and sins trusts in Christ.

We are so thankful for the missionaries and all those involved in God’s work here on earth! God is accomplishing His purposes, bringing life to those once dead. Exciting things are happening all around the world! Here’s a great update from Bolivia: “Praise the Lord for the report from Pastor Herland Gutierrez that 15 adults and youth have recently trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior in his church in Bolivia. Three months ago Pastor Gutierrez challenged the church members to pray every day for one unsaved person and commit themselves to invite them to church to hear the Gospel message. Dan Reed has been invited to take part in the first discipleship class for these new believers. Pray for spiritual growth” (Gracem.org). The new life of spring needs nourishment, water, and sunlight. Likewise, new Christians need spiritual food and encouragement to grow. Pray for the new believers in Bolivia and all around the world! Pray that God would work in their lives and bring growth to His children. Praise God, for He is holy and He will make all things new!

“The law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death” (Romans 8:2).

In Christ,
Rachel Joy
