Beautiful Faces

“Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed” (Psalm 34:5).

Those who have traveled overseas to developing countries notice that people can be extremely happy despite the poverty. Though it is obvious that money and material possessions cannot buy happiness, the happiness of some people seems to defy all logic. Even more mysterious and logic defying is the joy of the Lord. There are people all over the world who are filled with the joy of the Lord, and this joy is not based on circumstances. Joy is a gift from God. Just as Psalm 34:5 says, “those who look to him are radiant,” there is an outward aspect of inward joy that seems to manifest itself in a person’s countenance. In a way, joy makes people beautiful. Joy is like a small taste of heaven on earth.

Do you know anyone who clearly exhibits the joy of the Lord in their life? Is God’s joy evident in your life? If not, pray to God who brings Joy to restore you to the joy of your salvation (Psalm 52:12). Pray also that God would draw more people to Him all around the world, bringing them His saving grace and joy. Finally, “may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope” (Romans 15:13).

In the Joy of the Lord,
